  • Reading Quality Mark

    Gold, Gold, Gold!

Liverpool Reading Quality Mark in associate with the National Literacy Trust

Liverpool Reading Quality Mark (RQM) has been developed with a focus to promote reading for enjoyment amongst children.

A recent study conducted by the Institute for Education found that children who read for pleasure are likely to do significantly better than their peers.

Schools can be accredited with a bronze, silver or gold award which recognises the effort that they have made in promoting the joy of reading amongst their pupils.  In order to attain these awards schools are assessed across six themes.

    Key themes:

    • Leadership and management
    • Workforce development
    • Reading promotion
    • Reading events and groups
    • School wide opportunities for reading for enjoyment
    • Family/community involvement/public  library service

We were assessed by a member of the local authority, who spent the day looking around our school, speaking to Mrs Basnett, staff, governors, members of our wider community and of course our pupils.

We were delighted to be awarded the highest grade possible – gold!

    Well done to everyone involved.

Children from Y2-Y6 had a wonderful time this week as they promoted reading in the community at Stretton Way. They explored a range of vehicles whilst reading a range of books to show that you can enjoy a good book any time and anywhere. We are grateful to the staff at Stretton Way for supporting our initiative and to the lads at the depot who were great sports and joined us for our reading session. Check out our photos!
